My Favorite Monthly Function: Whine

Let’s talk about my favorite function. One in which I’m such a regular that security no longer checks me at the door. The one where I’m expected to be present so often that people call me up when they’re about to go as though I threw the event. Werc Crew, an event production, talent booking agency, and uniquely crafted creative collective of talented individuals curates a monthly shindig they’ve appropriately named Whine. I regularly show up to do exactly what the name implies for hours on end with no cares in the world. I love to dance, but the average party never gives me enough to dance to. I’m the person that begins to REALLY dance during those three classic reggae songs that every DJ decides to play after the New York hip hop section and right before the party is completely over. I don’t know how parties are everywhere else, but here in ATL, that’s the average party protocol for the average DJ on the average night. However, Whine isn’t your average party and Werc Crew aren’t your average DJ’s.  They’ve managed to keep Whine fresh and fun by switching the DJ lineup and host monthly. They even gave little ol’ me a shot as a first time host – which led to many other opportunities I didn’t even realize I would thoroughly enjoy.

Needless to say, they have an eye (or better yet, ear) for what’s next. They play everything from reggae faves, Latin vibes, Afro – beat, and I recently even noticed French dancehall in the mix. You never know what you’ll hear, but you can definitely guarantee that whatever it is it’ll be mixed in such a way that your body won’t stop moving. Whether you’re really about that “global riddims” life or a novice to the scene, you can’t help, but to enjoy yourself. The energy is too contagious.  I’ve sweated through more clothes and lost track of my entire life within the dungeon that is The Music Room more times than I’d like to admit on the web. So if this sounds like a good time to you, go to http://wercatl.com/ and grab your ticket to the next Whine and check out what else is to come from the one and only Werc Crew.
